Womens County Rugby Going For Gold 2022/23 Season

This year Oxfordshire Women’s Rugby are “going for gold”. With the cooperation of all of the clubs and players within the county there is no reason why we cannot emulate the men’s county squad and reach the finals of the Gill Burns County Cup.

The new coaching team that were appointed late last season will be visiting all of the clubs in the county when you have home fixtures. They will be watching and assessing the players that will be called forward for the county trials. We will be working very closely with all of the clubs and Universities to select a cup winning team.

We are well aware that you all play at different levels and leagues within the female structure and that is why we have taken the decision to visit the clubs. There will be a 10 to 12 week training programme for the county squad to select a cup winning side.

David Norris (Chuck) from Faringdon and James Davies (JD) from Bicester are the joint head coaches. They will be calling on various specialist coaches within the county to assist them during the training programme. I appreciate this is very different than how we have run it in the past, but after last season where we were badly let down late on in the season and everything turned into a mad rush with lack of player availability. I have been promised by the RFU that we will get the dates much earlier for our games and we should only have one away game (and we will not be asked to travel as far away as Cumbria this time).

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
