Job Purpose: To assist the Men’s Head of Rugby in the delivery of an effective programme for the men’s rugby performance squads.
Key Tasks:
- To assist in the planning and delivery of the men’s performance programmes as agreed with the Head of Rugby.
- To lead on areas of delivery as agreed with the Director of Rugby, currently backs performance, skill development and defence.
- To review and analyse performance of both OBURFC and opposition teams through use of the appropriate match videos on Coach Logic and as provided by the OBURFC analysts.
- To input to selection and the multi-disciplinary team.
- To share ownership of players’ individual development plans as agreed with the Head of Rugby, working with players to develop their understanding of their own performance and to maximise strengths and mitigate weaknesses.
- To assist in the administration and management of teams as required.
- To support the broader Oxford Brookes University rugby programme [men’s and women’s] as required, for example running skill sessions and observing and feeding back to fellow coaches.
- To contribute to the recruitment of players as agreed with the Head of Rugby.
- To lead on projects or management areas as agreed with the Head of Rugby, for example talent ID and player movement across the programme.
- Be available for all Performance Squad sessions (Monday & Friday) and 1st XV matches (Wednesday, when available) throughout the season, including pre season.

Person Specification
- Proven track record of coaching Performance Athletes in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of current coaching and training processes.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- IT skills necessary for analysis, presentations and report writing.
- Excellent motivational skill.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to update First Aid and Health and Safety requirements for Rugby and work towards advanced coaching awards and qualifications.
- Minimum of RFU Level 2 or Coaching Award.
- Willingness to work irregular hours as necessary.
- Detailed tactical and technical knowledge of Rugby Union.
- A commitment to observe and uphold anti-doping policies.

Well, we dropped the (egg shaped) ball on that one!
Bill Williams from the old Burfordians Association recently wrote to us to remind us that we have an anniversary in common. Checking back and our first officers were indeed elected in 1931 which makes us 90!
I’ll be asking the (ahem) more senior members of the committee for photographs of the time but we are extremely grateful for Bill sharing a picture of the school team which played its first match in November 1931 against Oxford Municipal. Join us in congratulating them for 90 years of rugby in the county.

This year there will be three categories to nominate in for the Honda Volunteer of the Year 2022 awards, which covers the last 12 months, and nominations can be made for either an individual or a team of volunteers.
Categories
1. Beyond Rugby: Connecting the Community – This award will recognise an individual or a group of volunteers who have made an outstanding contribution and had significant impact within their local community.
2. Unsung Heroes: This award will recognise an individual or group of volunteers that have gone above and beyond to support the club & ensure it is fit for the future.
3. Game for All: This award will recognise volunteers who have provided an inspiring and diverse offer, to open the game up to new audiences and make the game more accessible for all.
Nominations are now open and will close on Monday 28th February, with the awards being promoted via the Community Game Update, on the England Rugby website and across England Rugby social media channels. We would really appreciate your help in promoting these awards across your own clubs and channels.

- Nominations will be submitted online, via the Honda Volunteer Recognition page, and can be made either via written application or video.
- Guidance on submitting a nomination is included on the website below so please pay attention to this when nominating.

We have been saddened to hear of the death of Brian Kentish, who passed away yesterday (Sunday 09/01/2022).
Brian was a member of the Oxfordshire RFU committee for several years, where he was the organiser of the Oxfordshire RFU Vets competition in the late 90s and early 2000s. He was awarded an Oxfordshire RFU County badge for his service and commitment to the county.
Brian was also a former player and member of the Blue Boar RFC at Longworth. When his playing days ended, he continued as their secretary and was a major force in helping them get teams together to compete in the Oxfordshire RFU County Shield competition for many years.
Our condolences go to his family.
On Behalf of Oxfordshire W&G Rugby I would personally like to thank you all for the marvellous things you are all doing to improve the numbers of girls playing rugby in the county we have made great progress in a short space of time keep up the good work I hope you are all enjoying the county Cup
